Icon-Bearing Relic of St. Mardarije of Libertyville

Our St. Sava Parish was blessed beyond measure on March 4, 2018 (the 2nd Sunday of Great Lent) with the welcoming of the Icon-Bearing Relic of St. Mardarije of Libertyville, donated by the Cannon Family, in honor of their mother, Betsy’s 90th Birthday!

Fr. Marc Vranes, nephew of Betsy Cannon, was able to join Fr. Stevo Rocknage in presenting the Holy Icon to the faithful for the first time, at the Great Doxology of Matins before the Holy Liturgy.

The relic was given to the parish by His Grace, Bishop IRINEJ in a gesture of Arch-Pastoral Love, and the reliquary was donated for the relic by Fr. Marc….the beautiful Icon was written by the Deacon Matthew Garret, and reflects the wonder and the glory of one of God’s beloved Saints!

“Glory to God for all things!”

Stewardship Work Party

We had an excellent showing of support on Saturday, May 26, 2018 during our "Stewardship Work Party."  Volunteers helped out for a few hours to weed the parking lot hillside and perform general yard maintenance around the Church property.   The entire Parish is grateful to have such wonderful Stewards serving Christ.  Thank You!

International Village - 2018

McKeesport’s International Village took place August 14-15-16, 2018. St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church participated by operating the Serbian Food Booth. We had a great time and enjoyed the fellowship this event brings to our community. We want to thank everyone who purchased food from our booth and we want to thank all who volunteered many hours of their time (organizing the event, booth set up, cooking, operating the booth, cleaning, and booth take down). Most importantly, we thank God for giving us all the strength and energy to run such a great operation. Hvala!

Prayer for Communities Suffering In Violence
A Prayer For God's Help!

"O Lord God of Hosts, God of our salvation, Who alone does wonders:  in mercy and goodness, look upon Your humble servants, and as the Lover of Mankind, hear us and have mercy on us! For behold, enemies of our communities have gathered together to destroy us and to bring ruin and destruction in our families.  Hear us, O God our Savior, and deliver us, for the Glory of Your Name, and grant that we may say with truth, as did Moses when he spoke to the Israelites and said:  'Be bold, and stand fast; and you shall see the salvation that comes from the Lord, for the Lord shall fight for you!'  Yea, O God, our Savior, our Strength, our Hope, and our Protection:  remember not the sins and the unrighteousness of Your people, and do not turn away from us because of Your anger; but in mercy and goodness look upon Your humble servants who bow down before Your loving-kindness.  Rise up to help us, and grant that we may be victorious in this conflict.  Grant forgiveness of sins to those, who in the mystery of Your Dispensation, may lose their lives in this cndeavor, and in the day of Your just retribution, bestow upon them crowns of incorruption.  For You are the Protection, the Victory, and the Salvation of those who hope on You, and to You we ascribe glory:  to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages, Amen!"

Church Health Team's Steeler Party

On Sunday, December 30, 2018 the Church Health Team (CHT) hosted a Steeler Party.  The attendance (well over 50+ guests) surpassed the expectations of the planning committee.  The CHT would like to thank all who attended and all who brought food and drinks.  We pray that God will continue to bless our parish and surrounding community and hope to expand the love and fellowship in 2019!
